The Upper Wharfedale Heritage Group (UWHG) is a volunteer group whose purpose is adding to the knowledge of the archaeologically rich area of Upper Wharfedale and the surrounding landscapes.
Throughout the year we run a programme of talks and walks covering a wide range of heritage related subjects which are open to the public. Full details can be found below.
Formed in 2005, the UWHG has participated in many investigations of the history and heritage of the area sometimes working in conjunction with the Ingleborough Archaeology Group (IAG), the Yorkshire Dales National Park (YDNPA) and the Yorkshire Dales Landscape Research Trust (YDLRT).
Apart from field investigations, landscape surveys and excavations, we also have a strong strand of documentary research. These projects are described on this website. We offer a welcome to anyone who is interested in joining in any part of our work, or in knowing more about the results. Please use the contact information provided.
In the light of the Government’s Road Map, the committee of the Upper Wharfedale Heritage Group is considering ways of re-introducing a programme of walks and talks. Online talks via Zoom webinar are arranged and details can be found on the “Meetings and Talks” page here. Walks will resume as soon as circumstances permit. Details will be posted on the “Planned Walks” page here.
