About the U.W.H.G.
The Upper Wharfedale Heritage Group (U.W.H.G.) was formed in 2005 by former students of the University of Leeds School Of Continuing Education Archaeology classes The group was established to enable us to to build on the practical archaeological fieldwork previously carried out in Wharfedale.
Membership currently stands at around 50.
Members have been involved in producing a series of landscape surveys, in conjunction with Yorkshire Dales Landscape Research Trust including the area around Threshfield Quary, a lime kiln at Kilnsey and Lancliffe Scar near Settle. We have also been involved in recording the buildings of the now abandoned Threshfield Quarry, prior to it's redevelopment
In 2008 we successfully bid for a grant to survey and excavate a corn drying kiln at Kilnsey, the full report can be viewed here (Warning: this is a 6.8Mb file so may take a while to download)
Outlines of the projects that we are, or have been, involved in can be viewed here UWHG Members also play a major part in the summer excavations at Chapel House Wood, organised by Yorkshire Dales Landscape Research Trust
